Aside from his present medical specialties in Thoracic Procedures, Dr. Mark Plunkett, in the past 25 years has built an extensive list of specialties that include: Congenital Defects and Diseases, Vascular Procedures, Cardiology Transplant Procedures, Transplants, Cardiovascular Disease, and Pulmonary Disease.
He is also well-known for his involvement within the medical community and his connection with the latest breakthrough technology that will likely transform the transplant medical process as we know it.
Board-certified medical professional Dr. Mark Plunkett attended some of the most prestigious schools, medical institutions, medical centers and hospitals for his bachelors, doctorate, fellowship, and specialized training curriculums. While completing these hard-earned accreditations, Dr. Plunkett was also employed in hands-on training to complete fellowships and medical residencies to compliment his growing and impressive list of scholarly accomplishments.
In 1978, Dr. Mark Plunkett began his journey to study and help people through medical practice at Duke University. He completed his degree four years later, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Plunkett then went on to the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine, for his Doctor of Medicine, which he completed in 1986. He successfully completed his residency in G.S. at Duke in 1993. Between 1993-1996, Dr. Plunkett completed two fellowships (one for Thoracic Procedures from Duke University and one for Cardiology). From 1996 to 2014, Dr. Plunkett has been practicing in all specialties aforementioned (Thoracic Procedures, Congenital Disease Treatments, Vascular Procedures, Cardiology, Transplant Procedures, Cardiovascular Disease, and Pulmonary Disease). In that time, he has also become Board Certified in Thoracic Procedures as well as Congenital Procedures by ABTS.
